Malika Kidd, Program Director, Workforce Development

Women are the fastest growing population in the US criminal legal system, and the majority of women who are incarcerated are mothers. For a mother leaving prison, the stakes are high. Having a felony on her record can make it especially tough to find work and stable housing and support her children. Yet a culture of reform is emerging with strong leadership from women. In APART, we witness a new reentry program for women in Cleveland, Ohio — a state with record numbers of women in prison. Its program director, Malika, is a mother who was formerly incarcerated in the same prison. Each screening event is an opportunity for members of your community to hear from those who have been impacted by the justice system.
